From a fill valve that won't quit to a brand-new toilet, it's all part of a day's work for Geek Plumbing Services.
Toilet Repair, Replacement & Installation
Toilets are simple machines with a surprising number of ways to drive you up the wall. Our toilet repair service takes care of the running, the rocking, the leaking and the clogs in homes around Asheville, NC. When a toilet isn't worth saving, we handle replacement and installation too. It's everyday residential plumbing, done with quick, clear explanations so you know exactly what went wrong and why.
Toilet Keeps Running? Check the Fill Valve and Flapper
A toilet that runs on and off, or hisses all night, is almost always one of two parts. The flapper at the bottom of the tank can warp or get grimy and let water slip into the bowl. The fill valve, the tower that refills the tank, can wear out and keep feeding water past the overflow tube. Either way, your water bill pays for it. Toilet fill valve replacement and new flappers are quick fixes, and we'll make sure the chain, float and water level are set right while we're in there.

Leaking at the Base: Wax Ring and Flange Trouble
Water on the floor around the toilet? The seal underneath has usually failed. That seal is a wax ring sitting on the flange, the fitting that connects the toilet to the drain pipe. If the toilet rocks, the ring gets squished and stops sealing, and a cracked or loose flange makes things worse. We pull the toilet, check the flange and floor, repair what's needed and reset it on a fresh seal. Catch it early. Slow leaks at the base can soften the subfloor.

Toilet Won't Flush (or Barely Does)
A weak or failed flush has a few usual causes: a slipped flapper chain, a broken handle or lift arm, or a tank water level set too low. Then there's mineral buildup, which clogs the little rim holes under the bowl's edge. Hard water is especially good at that one. Most of these are small repairs once we know which one you've got.

Clogged Toilet? When to Call a Plumber
A plunger handles most everyday clogs. Call a plumber for a clogged toilet when plunging doesn't help, when it clogs over and over, or when something that definitely isn't toilet paper went down. Are other drains in the house slow or gurgling too? Then the problem may be further down the line. We'll check whether you need drain cleaning or a look at the main sewer line.
Geek tip: if the bowl is about to overflow, lift the tank lid and press the flapper closed, then turn the shut-off valve behind the toilet clockwise. That stops the water while you figure out the next step.
Toilet Repair or Replacement?
Most toilet problems are just worn parts. Toilet repair handles those. Replacement starts to make sense when the bowl or tank is cracked, when the repairs keep coming, or when an old water-hungry toilet is costing you on every flush. A new toilet is also a chance to choose a taller comfort-height bowl or a more water-efficient model.
Toilet Installation, Step by Step
- 1
Remove the old toilet
and take a good look at the flange and the floor underneath.
- 2
Fix what we find,
whether that's a damaged flange or a supply valve that won't fully close.
- 3
Set the new toilet
on a fresh seal, level it and bolt it down so it doesn't rock.
- 4
Connect a new supply line,
test the flush and check for leaks before we call it done.

Toilet Repair FAQ

Why does my toilet keep running?
Most of the time it's the flapper or the fill valve. Here's a quick test: add a few drops of food coloring to the tank and wait without flushing. If color shows up in the bowl, the flapper is leaking. If the tank water is spilling into the overflow tube, it's the fill valve or the water level.
Why is my toilet leaking at the base?
Sometimes it isn't a leak at all. In humid weather, a cold tank can sweat and drip onto the floor. If the water appears after flushing, or the toilet rocks, the wax ring under it has probably failed and the toilet needs to be reset.
Is it better to repair or replace a toilet?
If the porcelain is in good shape, repairing the parts inside is usually the smart move. Cracks, constant repairs or a very old, water-hungry model are good reasons to replace it instead. We'll give you an honest call either way.
Can a running toilet really raise my water bill?
It can, by more than you'd expect. A constantly running toilet pours clean water down the drain day and night, and a new flapper or fill valve costs far less than the water it wastes.
What should I do if my toilet overflows?
Stop the water first. Press the flapper down inside the tank and turn the shut-off valve behind the toilet clockwise. If the water won't stop, sewage is coming up, or other drains are backing up too, call our emergency plumbing line right away. We answer 24/7.
